UPLOADING CGI SCRIPTS

What is a CGI script ?
A CGI script is a program that runs off the server that enables your visitors to interact with your site. These scripts can range from a guest book to a full e-commerce shopping system.

Where do I put my CGI scripts ?
CGI scripts can go anywhere in your web directory. However you also have your own personal ./cgi-bin in your root directory. Just upload your scripts to either the cgi-bin or any folder within your ./web directory.
If you have put a script in the ./cgi-bin then you can access that folder through your web browser with http://www.your.co.uk/cgi-bin/

There are a few things you need to know before you upload your cgi scripts.

The path to perl #!/usr/bin/perl
The path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail
Absolute Server Path /home/sites/your.co.uk/web

You need to know how to set permissions on files and folders.

Connect to your virtual server:

Make sure the file transfer method is set to ASCII

Upload the script to you desired location

You now need to set the script so that it can be executed on the server.

SETTING FILE PERMISSIONS CGI Perl scripts need to be executable
For a CGI Perl script you need to set the permissions as they are shown above.
Technically this is CHMOD 755.
